A Letter
from the President of GPA National
Greyhound Pets of America
has been finding homes for retired racing greyhounds since 1987.
Over the years we have grown to a point where we are now the
largest single breed adoption program. Although we have grown, our
mission of finding loving homes for retired racing greyhounds has
not changed, nor has the quality of our programs changed.
What has changed is our
ability to make a difference when an emergency track closes and
our ability to help our chapters with much needed resources,
whether that is a new trailer or a grant to help with an injured
greyhound.
The growth that we have
encountered over the years has been the result of hard work of
hundreds of volunteers. Our organization is run and operated by
volunteers, individuals giving of themselves because they love
greyhounds and believe in our mission.
We have ambitious goals to
further help our chapters with needed resources and to be there
when a track closes with funds that would feed, transport and
provide medical care to the greyhounds as they enter the adoption
world.
Having these ambitious
goals is not something that we should take lightly nor should they
be overlooked. We can expect some track closures in the next
couple of years. We should not overlook the inevitable but instead
plan for the welfare of these beautiful greyhounds that will need
our assistance.
We have embarked on a
journey, a journey that the greyhounds are counting on us to
fulfill. The people on this journey are individuals that I count
as colleagues, friends and truly wonderful individuals.
The pessimist will
complain that we have too much work to do, the optimist will
expect change, but the realist adjusts and participates in making
a difference. I believe in Greyhound Pets of America and our
mission and fully support the volunteers, the realist working
daily to find homes for greyhounds.
You can help support our
programs by becoming a member of GPA National!
